NEWS: Flicx Pitch and Hungarian National Team Shirts

Flicx Cricket Pitch.

The HCA is pleased to announce the new Flicx Cricket Pitch was officially ordered today from the main Flicx supplier in the UK. The pitch is expected to arrive in Hungary first week in April and in time for the beginning of the 2009 cricket season.

The pitch will be based at the home ground of Dunabogdany CC and Phoenix CC out in the village of Dunabogdany. It will be available for all matches throughout the 2009 cricket season hosted at the clubs and of course to include the official Hungarian National Teams fixtures.

The pitch will come complete with its own trolley, for ease of transport, and will be rolled out and removed before and after every game hosted at the Dunabogdany ground.
The pitch will be an incredible addition to Hungarian cricket. It will greatly reduce the chance of the bowling of dead and dangerous balls and will give the added confidence to both batsmen and bowler that the game will not be only being played in a very picturesque setting at Dunabogdany, but a safer setting as well.

Please check back to this site early April for a full report on the arrival of the pitch and photos of it in situ at Dunabogdany. The first match to be played on the new Flicx pitch is planned for 18th April 2009.

National Hungarian Team Shirts.

Negotiations are underway with a Budapest polo-shirt manufacturer to produce the new National Team shirts. All shirts will be of polo shirt style, short sleeves and complete with the national Hungarian emblem. It is thought that there will be two colours purchased, a traditional classic white/cream shirt and a red shirt the same shade as the Hungarian National Soccer team. It is planned to use the new shirts for the coming tournaments in Prague and Vienna. Watch this space for further details.

Level 1 Umpire Course Held, First Ever in Budapest

The first ever cricket umpires course in the history of Hungary was held in the capital city Budapest, during the weekend of 24th and 25th January 2009. The level 1 course for umpires was supplied by the ICC and very greatly received by the Hungarian Cricket Association. Tutor Keith Healey travelled from the UK to present and conduct the course to 17 participants, which included five native Hungarians. The venue for the event was the Taj Mahal Indian restaurant in downtown Budapest. The restaurant was partitioned for the two days of tutoring and all 17 students plus Keith were accommodated admirably, only distraction being the incredible aroma of Indian Cuisine flowing from the Taj Mahals kitchens! Very generous host and owner of the Taj Mahal restaurant Lucky Singh commented:

“It was a great pleasure to host the course here at the Taj Mahal restaurant. I think all would agree the course was extremely extensive and was eloquently and superbly presented by Keith Healey. With the new season now on the horizon, it is certain we will be better equipped to handle the many situations that inevitably will arise “.

During both days Lucky kindly offered snacks and drinks on the house! Lucky is also on the Hungarian Cricket Association Management Committee and heavily involved in the organisational day to day running of the HCA.

The course culminated on the Sunday with all 17 participants taking the 75 question exam and all now eagerly await their results from the ICC.’
